Commerce City is a city located in Adams County, Colorado, United States. The area that would become Commerce City was originally settled by farmers and ranchers in the mid-19th century, and was known as the “Sand Creek” area. The city of Commerce City was officially founded in 1902, and was known as the “Adams City” until 1952.

In the early 20th century, Commerce City began to transform into an industrial center, with the construction of several large oil refineries, including the Sunray DX Oil Refinery and the Great Western Sugar Company. These refineries attracted a number of workers and their families to the area, and helped to spur economic growth in the city.

During the mid 20th century, the city’s population continued to grow as new housing developments were built to accommodate the influx of new residents. This led to the expansion of the city’s infrastructure, including new schools and public services.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Commerce City experienced a period of economic decline, as the oil and sugar industries went through a period of contraction. However, the city has since shifted its economy towards other industry and services, such as the Denver International Airport and recreation and tourism, which has led to a resurgence in population and economic growth.

Today, Commerce City is a diverse and rapidly growing community with a population of over 63,000 people. The city has a strong economy, a high quality of life, and a wide range of recreational and cultural opportunities. It is also known for its proximity to Denver and its role as a transportation hub, as well as its many parks, open spaces and recreational areas.
